How to prepare your facility for an AGV/AMR implementation? It’s easier than you might think!

For many companies, automating internal transport is associated with a major overhaul, rebuilding the production hall, and costly investments in IT infrastructure. That is a common misconception! In reality, implementing industrial mobile robots can be a fast and straightforward process.

1. Starting with a single robot? All you need is an idea of the work cycle!

If you want to automate a single transport process (e.g. moving pallets from point A to point B), all you really need to deploy your first AGV or AMR is:

A preliminary concept of the work cycle:

Defining where the robot should pick up the load, where it should deliver it, and under what conditions the transport task should be initiated.

The RB Poland engineering team takes care of everything else. We come to your facility, configure the route, program the operating logic, and commission the robot ready for operation. Most importantly, even a Wi-Fi infrastructure is not required for a single robot! The vehicle can perform its tasks fully autonomously, without the need for continuous communication with an external network.

2. When does a Wi-Fi network become necessary?

Wireless communication (Wi-Fi) becomes useful in more advanced industrial scenarios:

Production line integration

When an automated production line needs to send a signal and request a robot to collect a finished product or components.

Multiple-robot fleet

When several vehicles operate within the facility and it becomes necessary to manage intersections, traffic flow, and transport order queues.

3. Routes and transport aisles

The basic physical requirement for a facility is to provide transport aisles with sufficient width. The required width depends directly on the vehicle selected – a compact AMR will have different dimensions than a heavy-duty AGV designed to transport large pallets.

What about very narrow aisles?

Narrow passages do not rule out automation! RB Poland robots can safely maneuver in confined spaces. In such areas, they automatically adjust their operating parameters and move at an appropriately reduced speed, while maintaining a high level of safety for pedestrians and loads.

4. Floor condition: Uneven surfaces and inclines are not an obstacle!

A common concern among investors is the condition of the facility floor. There is a widespread misconception that floors for mobile robots must be perfectly level and smooth, almost like those in a laboratory. With RB Poland systems, this is not a problem! Minor surface defects, cracks, expansion joints, and slight inclines are fully acceptable.
